What is the Gear Up Hockey Foundation?
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to removing the financial barriers of youth hockey. We provide equipment,(https://www.gearuphockeyfoundation.org/equipment-request-form) "Learn to Play" scholarships, and community support to ensure every child has the chance to play, regardless of their family’s income.
Are you a hockey team or a league?
No. We are a support foundation. We partner with existing local rinks and leagues in the D.C. areas to provide the gear and funding so kids can join those programs.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes! We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. When you donate through our website,(https://www.gearuphockeyfoundation.org/donate) you will automatically receive a tax receipt via email for your records.
Where does my money go?
100% of public donations go directly toward purchasing new safety gear (like helmets), refurbishing donated equipment, and paying for ice time and league registration fees for our scholarship recipients.
Can I donate used equipment?
Absolutely. We host "Equipment Swaps" and collection drives throughout the year. We accept gently used, clean, and safe gear. Please check our Events page for the next drop-off date.
How can my child receive gear or a scholarship?
We are currently building our inaugural "Learn to Play" cohort. Please send us a message with your child's age and location to be notified when the application window opens.
What age groups do you serve?
Our primary focus is on youth hockey (ages 3–18). We believe the earlier a child gets on the ice, the more they benefit from the confidence and teamwork the sport provides.
How can I volunteer?
We are always looking for coaches, equipment experts, and event volunteers! Send an email to gearup@gearuphockeyfoundation.org to join the team.
Do you partner with local businesses?
Yes. We have several Corporate Sponsorship levels (Gold, Platinum, etc.) that offer marketing visibility in exchange for supporting our mission. Contact gearup@gearuphockeyfoundation.org for a sponsorship packet.
